National parks in north see record numbers

Thailand’s northern most national parks are seeing record numbers so far this season. Over the Thai New Year holiday, park officials reported that the number of tourists far exceeded the recommended capacity at many of the mountain parks in the north. Concerns were raised over the high numbers of tourists and the negative effects they could have on the parks facilities and ecosystems.

The chief of the Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department said all of the national parks lodging facilities are already booked up for the rest of the peak tourist season, but there are still camping opportunities. Park officials recommend that anyone planning to stay at a national park this winter should make reservations at least one month in advance. Many of the parks will enforce their capacity numbers for the rest of the season.

Park officials highly recommend that you book reservations at least 60 days in advance if you are planning to visit the national parks. Also, consider booking rooms in the vicinity of the parks, especially if you are visiting the parks around Chiang Mai or others located in the north of Thailand.
