Thailand still cheap, Krabi still peaceful  E-mail
ImageTours of beautiful Krabi and the Andaman Sea region of southern Thailand have been in demand from Scandinavian travellers for over 30 years, and the region remains as idyllic as ever, despite the recent troubles further north in Bangkok.

Those looking for a bargain holiday should remember how incredibly low the cost of living is in Thailand.

Even having a full-scale adventure needn’t cost a fortune: Andaman Camp and Cruise, a family-run travel company in Krabi, offers tailor-made tours around Krabi and has been exploring the Andaman Sea for six years with the aid of its traditional longtail boats.

Day trips, camping trips, longer expeditions along the Thai coast, sunset tours and the chance to experience traditional village life with a Muslim homestay are all available. The company is run by Elizabeth, originally from Australia, her Thai husband Sun, and baby Noah, who is just one year old.

“I think it helps to have a true English speaking guide (me!) who can explain what it is really, truthfully like to live here,” says Elizabeth, who has been in Thailand for over six years. “Between us, Sun and I can answer questions not only about the islands and places we visit, but about all aspects of Thailand.”

Scandinavians learned the secret of the white beaches and crystal clear waters of Krabi early and have been flocking there for over 30 years. Andaman Camp and Cruise has become something of a Scandinavia expert for Thailand, with a Swedish website and many returning customers from the Nordic countries.

Andaman Camp and Cruise offers Krabi tours as well as daytrips and longer trips in the Krabi and Andaman Sea region of southern Thailand. The company arranges all aspects of trips, and consults with customers over length of stay, activities, food and standard of accommodation.

Image It is red holiday for Abhisit

IT is 10pm on a Wednesday night in Bangkok. And there’s a picnic in front of the residence of General Prem Tinsulanonda, the 88 year-old chief adviser to the Thai king. A “picnic” if you disregard the phalanx of riot policemen standing guard along the concrete fence of Prem’s home, the red-shirted protesters shouting “ok pai Prem (Prem get out in Thai)” and a poster depicting Thaksin Shinawatra as Superman. Free food - fried noodles and bottled mineral water - is flowing. Most of the protesters are sitting picnic-style on the road listening to stinging speeches condemning Prem.
